Aug 05, 2012 · Figured Id start this thread and document my 5.0 swap on here. Here are the details. Its a 1998 ranger 3.0 auto. This is its second 3.0 motor and I did a 5 speed swap while I was at it. The truck is my DD and I see alot of hills that I use 3rd gear in and Im sick of it. Since this motor is on its last leg I am doing the 5.0 swap.

One of the things I always thought that would be neat is to do a V8 conversion on a 4wd Ranger, but set the V8 up to only drive the rear wheels using a T5 manual transmission.

I’ve done the v8 swap on my 94 extended cab. Lots of trial and error! The best option for a manual transmission is a t56 because of its relocatable shifter. But you a still have the problem of the clutch. My ranger is hydraulic. Also you have to choose exhaust manifold/headers carefully.

I’m thinking about swapping my auto ford ranger to a manual. Been looking at some trans and some other related parts towards the project and it seems kinda expensive.
